Select Project Experience
• 35W Bridge Reconstruction, Minneapolis, MN
Utility relocation to accommodate the new wider 35W Bridge, installation of an “Ecostorm” storm retention system, sanitary sewer to drop shaft including concrete encasement and cathodic protection, and the installation of a 20’ box culvert for a pedestrian tunnel under the bridge. The box culvert is the believed to be the biggest in the State of Minnesota.
• Twins Ballpark, Minneapolis, MN
Utility installations and relocations that were required to accommodate a new skyway system to the ballpark, from the existing Target Center and parking lot facilities. An 18” live sanitary sewer, a water main, and a storm sewer were all relocated and storm treatment structures were also added. Thorough logistical management was necessary to ensure minimal impact on traffic, as closures of I-394 into downtown Minneapolis took place.
• Hiawatha Light Rail Project, Minneapolis, MN
Removal and replacement of all water main crossings that were in the path of the proposed 12 mile long light rail. This included setting up bypass water main, and removing and replacing existing line – some of which was over a century old. The project also entailed complete concrete encasement, isolation couplers and all related cathodic protection. Effective coordination and scheduling was absolutely critical, as Meyer Contracting had to close down some of Minneapolis’s busiest intersections.
• Guthrie Theatre, Minneapolis, MN
Installation of all utilities for the new theater and the parking ramp. This required having to temporarily shut down, remove and replace a major downtown roadway.
• Midtown Exchange Commercial and Residential Development, Minneapolis, MN
Installation of utilities for the renovated building, and a 1.2 acre underground storage pond and retainage system that was the largest underground system of its kind in the Twin Cities Metro. A large amount of unanticipated removals of contaminated soils were discovered and resolved. A multi faceted project, with many contractors working at the same time in an extremely small area. Organization, effective communication and coordination with multiple contractors were absolutely vital to the success of this job. Meyer Contracting exceeded all project deadlines.
• Heritage Park (all phases), Minneapolis, MN
Installation of all underground utilities including: water, sewer, and storm sewer for over 250 residential units. Limestone weir walls, a pedestrian bridge, special granite inlaid paving, a landscaped park, and several storm water control structures were also installed. Meyer Contracting recruited several other outstanding minority business enterprises in the effort to clean up this vital neighborhood.
• Loring Greenway, Minneapolis, MN
Demolition of old site, updated features: 60,000 sq ft of concrete, specialty pavers, new landscaping, replaced and renovated drainage structures, new fountains, landscaping and irrigation system, additional electrical and exterior lighting. The site proved to be a logistical challenge for Meyer Contracting and its subcontractors as the width of the Greenway narrows to 40 feet at places. Trucking sometimes passed within inches of homes. Meyer Contracting worked closely with the passionate neighborhood community and city officials: weekly project meetings, email/website updates with neighborhood representatives and city officials, kept all informed of the progress. Positive neighborhood feedback throughout the project. Coordination within Meyer Contracting was also critical, as all three of Meyer Contractings’ divisions (Utilities, Earthwork & Demolition, and General Contracting) supported the effort.
• VA Hospitals, Minneapolis and St. Cloud, MN
Meyer Contracting has developed a strong client partnership with the VA Hospital system, and as a result, has performed all types of interior and exterior construction projects. Careful planning and coordination as to not disrupt patient care is absolutely paramount.
The company has received its “Healthcare Construction Certification”. This important certification ensures that the company is up on the latest compliance issues in healthcare construction, and allows them to assess infection control risk prior to the start of a construction project – the number one reason for patient deaths
In addition the company has developed a niche in high tech site preparation such as C/T scanners, MRI Cat Scan Systems and Digital Radiology systems. Meyer Contracting is currently in final stages of discussions with the manufacturer Philips about being their turnkey vendor for such hi-tech hospital technology systems.
